According to Supreme Court lawyer Abhishek Rai, if the symbol of Rupee ₹ had been recognized as the national symbol, then only the central government would have the right to make any kind of change in it, but the symbol of Rupee is not in the list of national symbols.

What changes can be made in the design of national symbols?

He told that the Indian National Emblem (Prevention of Misuse) Act 2005 is in place regarding the change in the national symbol. Later this law was updated in 2007. According to section 6(2)(f) of the Act, the government has the right to change the design of the national symbols.

According to economic experts, if needed, the central government has the power to make any changes in the national emblem that it considers necessary. Under the Act, only the design of the national emblem can be changed, not the entire design. However, many experts believe that the central government not only has the power to change the design of the national emblem but it can also change the entire national emblem.
