Lalu Prasad Yadav’s elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav, who has always been in the headlines in Bihar politics, is once again in the news. After being expelled from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), he has filed his nomination for the Mahua assembly seat under the banner of his new political party, the Janshakti Janata Dal. In his affidavit, Tej Pratap disclosed his assets and criminal cases.
According to the affidavit, Tej Pratap Yadav has total assets worth ₹2.88 crore. This includes movable assets worth ₹91.65 lakh and immovable assets worth ₹1.96 crore. Interestingly, in 2020, he declared movable assets worth ₹1.22 crore and immovable assets worth ₹1.6 crore. This means that his immovable assets have increased slightly over the past five years, while his movable assets have decreased.
Pending Criminal Cases Against Tej Pratap
In his election affidavit, Tej Pratap also disclosed that he has 8 pending criminal cases. These include serious cases under IPC sections 324, 302, 120B, and 341. He also faces 498 counts of dowry harassment, the SC/ST Act, and the Arms Act. He has not yet been convicted in any of these cases. It has also been clarified that the details of his wife, Aishwarya Rai, have not been included in the affidavit because the divorce case is currently pending in the family court in Patna.
Tej Pratap Yadav expelled from RJD for 6 years
Tej Pratap Yadav was expelled from the party in May 2025 by his father and RJD President Lalu Prasad Yadav for 6 years. The reason given was “irresponsible behavior.” Following his expulsion, Tej Pratap formed a new party, the Janshakti Janata Dal, and is now contesting elections on its ticket. He attempted to convey an emotional message by carrying a picture of his late grandmother at the time of his nomination.
Politics and Controversy Together
Tej Pratap Yadav’s political career has always been surrounded by controversies. His rhetoric, controversies surrounding his personal life, and differences with the party leadership have consistently kept him in the headlines. A few months ago, he claimed on social media that he was in a relationship with a woman, prompting the party to take strict action and expel him. Tej Pratap later stated that his Facebook account had been hacked.
Became MLA from Mahua in 2020
Tej Pratap Yadav was elected RJD MLA from the Mahua assembly seat in 2020. Subsequently, the party nominated him for the Hasanpur seat. Despite his tumultuous political journey, Tej Pratap remains one of the most popular faces in Bihar.
