Thalapathy Vijay Party: Another superstar of South India has announced a new political party. Tamil actor Thalapathy Vijay, known as Thalapathy among his fans, has formed a new political party. He named it Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), but the question is whether the way Vijay’s films earn huge sums at the box office as soon as they are released, will his party also get votes in abundance or will all the other films Their political party will also meet the same fate as the party formed by the stars.
MG Ramachandran was the first person in South India who capitalized on his film popularity in politics and his party All India Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam also got power in Tamil Nadu. MGR himself became the Chief Minister. After him, Jayalalitha, who came into politics from films, also became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from AIADMK. Even now AIADMK is included in the two most prominent political parties of Tamil Nadu.
Even though DMK was formed by CN Annadurai and he became its Chief Minister, the real identity of the party and its stability in the politics of Tamil Nadu came only when M Karunanidhi, who came into politics from films, took charge of the party. Even now the same DMK and the same Karunanidhi’s son is the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Apart from this, Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh is also one such party, which was formed by the famous Telugu film actor NT Rama Rao. He also became the Chief Minister of his party, but actually the party reached its peak when NTR’s son-in-law Chandrababu Naidu took charge of the party and then he rose from a minister at the Center to the Chief Minister of the state.
What happened to Vijayakanth’s party?
Apart from these three parties, there has been another star from South India, who has made his place in politics apart from films. The name is Vijaykant, whose party is DMDK i.e. Desiya Murpoku Dravida Kazhagam. Through this party, Captain Vijayakanth contested the 2006 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. Vijaykant lost on 242 seats out of 243, but he won his own seat.
In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Vijayakanth’s DMDK got more than 10 percent of the votes and his party became the third largest party in Tamil Nadu. In the 2011 elections, Captain Vijay along with AIADMK contested 41 seats and won 29. In the 2016 elections, Captain Vijay was also a candidate for the post of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, but due to changing sides, Vijayakanth did not achieve anything. Vijaykant did not achieve anything in the 2019 Lok Sabha and 2021 Assembly elections and after his death in 2023, the party is also on the verge of extinction.
Which superstars made the party?
Apart from these four names, all the superstars have formed their own parties, but could not achieve anything special. For example, Rajinikanth, whom people worship like a god in South India. Lovers call him Thalaiva. He wanted to enter politics since 1996, when he was at the peak of his film career. While sometimes supporting DMK, sometimes BJP and sometimes Tamil Manila Congress, Rajinikanth announced on 31 December 2017 that he will form his own political party. u
He formed the party Rajini Makkal Mandram RMM, but on 12 July 2021, he dissolved the party and said that he will not enter politics now. Even now there are speculations on Rajinikanth that he may enter politics again, but past experiences say that even after coming into politics, he will not be able to establish that larger than life image as he did in cinema. Is.
Kamal Haasan has also formed the rest of the party. Kamal Haasan had fielded 37 candidates in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, but all of them lost. In 2021, he himself contested the assembly elections from Coimbatore South seat of Tamil Nadu, but he lost the election to Dr. Vanathi Srinivasan of BJP.
South’s superstar Chiranjeevi had formed a political party in the year 2008 itself. The name was Praja Rajyam Party. When assembly elections were held in Andhra Pradesh in 2009, Chiranjeevi’s party won 18 out of 294 seats. Chiranjeevi himself had won the Tirupati seat, but he had lost from Palakolu seat. In February 2011, Chiranjeevi merged his party with Congress and then in 2012 he went to Rajya Sabha. He also became a minister in the Manmohan Singh government, but after the Modi government came to power, Chiranjeevi has stayed away from politics.
Same thing happened with another superstar Pawan Kalyan. He started politics in 2008 with his brother Chiranjeevi’s party Praja Rajyam Party, but when Chiranjeevi merged his party with Congress, in 2014 he formed his own party, Jana Sena Party. In 2019, Pawan Kalyan’s party contested elections on 140 seats in Andhra Pradesh.
Pawan Kalyan himself contested elections from two seats, but he lost both the seats at the hands of YSR Congress. One of their candidates was successful in winning that election. Now Pawan Kalyan has formed an alliance with BJP for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Now the question is about the failure of these big superstars, that is a different story. And the broad story is that the old superstars who were successful in films as well as politics, were those people who had played more religious characters in their films.
Therefore, the people of South India worshiped him like a god. Be it about MGR or NTR. But in the changing times, the new actors who came, the public limited their talent to cinema only and when it came to electing a leader, the public chose only a Khanty leader and this is the reason why after NTR and Jayalalitha, there is no such superstar from South India. Who has got the post of Chief Minister on his own strength?
The rest, from Mohan Babu to Prakash Raj and from Balakrishna to Khushboo and Ramya, have become big names in the politics of South India, who may not have formed any political party of their own, but their presence in different parties is ignored. Cannot be done.
Whereas in North India, everyone from Amitabh Bachchan to Rajesh Khanna, Sunil Dutt, Govinda, Shatrughan Sinha, Jaya Prada and Ravi Kishan made a mark for themselves in politics, but for this they did not rely on their own political party but on the already established parties. Tried it and succeeded too.
