The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab launched a scathing attack on the central government over the trade deal with the US. The party alleged that the deal is a conspiracy to ruin Indian farmers and destroy the economic power of the country’s agriculture. Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, AAP Punjab’s chief spokesperson Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said that when this issue concerns the future of India and the livelihoods of over 80 crore people, why are the details not being shared in Parliament?
The AAP leader questioned, “Who is Trump to the people of India? He may be Modi’s friend, but why is he dictating India’s policies on social media when the Prime Minister is silent? What deal has been struck behind closed doors, and why is it being kept hidden from the country?”
Open Doors for American Agricultural Products
Dhaliwal warned that under this deal, the BJP is preparing to open India’s doors to American agricultural products at zero tax, which will flood the market with cheap imported goods and devastate farmers. He said, “This is not trade; this is surrender. This is the BJP’s plan to destroy the agricultural sector in India so that their capitalist friends can profit.”
Dhaliwal expressed concern about the health and food safety risks of chemical-laden American products and warned that this deal could force India to stop buying oil from Russia and instead rely on expensive imports from the US, leading to inflation. He said, “When oil becomes expensive, everything will become expensive. This deal will affect every household.”
Why is Punjab BJP Leadership Silent? – AAP
Dhaliwal also targeted the Punjab BJP leadership, asking why they are maintaining a criminal silence on an issue that directly threatens the backbone of the state’s economy – agriculture. The AAP spokesperson questioned whether the Punjab BJP leaders have the courage to tell the farmers where they will go when American wheat, maize, soybeans, cotton, dairy, fish, meat, and other products enter India at almost zero duty and destroy the local market?
He asked, “Punjab is an agrarian state.” If this deal goes through, what will happen to our wheat belt, our cotton belt, our dairy farmers, and our own fish markets? Punjab BJP leaders must answer where our farmers will go, what will happen to our agriculture, and what future will be left for Punjab? MLA Dhaliwal demanded that Prime Minister Modi immediately disclose the entire agreement, along with all its terms and conditions, to the Lok Sabha and the people of India.
