The BJP and Chirag Paswan’s party, the LJP (Ram Vilas), are at loggerheads not only over the number of seats, but also over Chirag Paswan’s demand for preferred seats. Chirag Paswan wants as many seats as possible for himself as possible. He also wants seats for some of his senior leaders included in the seat-sharing arrangement. The issue is that some of the seats Chirag wants are BJP-held seats, while others are being eyed by allies. He has presented his intentions and demands to the BJP regarding this.
Among the seats Chirag Paswan wants for his party’s top leaders, the most important is Govindganj, which he wants for his Bihar state president, Raju Tiwari. Tiwari served as an MLA from there in 2015. However, the current MLA is from the BJP. Chirag Paswan also wants the Brahmapur seat for his party’s state parliamentary board chairman, Hulas Pandey.
Chirag Paswan has staked claim to these seats.
In addition, Chirag Paswan has demanded the Mahua and Rajapakad seats within his own Hajipur Lok Sabha constituency. However, NDA ally Upendra Kushwaha has also staked claim to the Mahua assembly seat. Along with these seats, Chirag Paswan also wants Morwa and Samastipur seats in the Samastipur Lok Sabha constituency, Hayaghat and Lalganj seats in the Vaishali Lok Sabha constituency, Chakai and Jamui seats in the Jamui Lok Sabha constituency, and Alauli seat in the Khagaria Lok Sabha constituency.
The JDU wants the Chakai seat, from where it wants to field independent candidate Sumit Singh. Chirag Paswan also wants the Sikandra seat, where Jitan Ram Manjhi’s party currently holds the sitting MLA. Besides these seats, the other seats Chirag Paswan has staked claim to include the Bodhgaya, Sherghati, Atri, Bakhri, Matihani, and Hisua assembly seats. Last time Chirag’s party had won from Matihani but his MLA had joined JDU, hence JDU is staking its claim on this seat.
