A fake insurance claim scam of Rs 62 lakh was committed in the year 2004
This case is of the year 2004. The CBI had registered this case on December 31, 2004, a total of 20 people were made accused in this case. These included both government officials and private persons. It was alleged that together they committed a fake insurance claim scam of about Rs 62 lakh.
Fake insurance claims were passed in collusion between surveyor and officer
These people had filed 10 different fake fire insurance claims. In all the claims, it was said that the stock of grass was burnt due to fire. In these cases, surveyors like Apurv Patel prepared fake reports and United India Insurance Company officer Kikubhai Dhori got those reports passed.
How did the truth come out in the CBI investigation?
In the CBI investigation, it became clear that out of all the 10 claims, only one claim was passed fraudulently, which was of Vasantbhai Patel and in that an amount of Rs 8,97,300 was taken from the insurance company. In this claim, Apurv Patel prepared a false survey report and Vasant Patel withdrew the money through cheque.
But the surprising thing was that the cheque was signed by Vasant Patel but the handwriting was of Kikubhai Dhori. This proved that Kikubhai played an active role in this scam to benefit his relative Vasantbhai.
After completing the investigation, CBI filed a chargesheet in 2007
After completing the investigation of the case, CBI filed a chargesheet against five accused on 31 December 2007. After the hearing, the court found three people guilty and sentenced them to 5 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 35.30 lakh.
