The central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam’ in Varanasi to establish coordination between the culture of North India and South India. An attempt has been made to bring the culture of North and India on one platform. The holy ‘Sengol’ brought from Tamil Nadu was established right next to the Speaker’s seat in the Lok Sabha chamber in the new Parliament House. In this way, PM Modi’s government took the initiative to give a new identity to Tamil Nadu’s culture at the national level. He has described Tamil as the oldest language in the world. He said that it is a matter of great pride for us that Tamil is the oldest language in the world and every Indian is proud of it. The number of people learning it in countries around the world is constantly increasing.
During his recent visit to Tamil Nadu, PM Modi participated in the Adi Thiruvathirai Mahotsav organized on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Chola emperor Rajendra Chola I at the Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple in Tiruchirapalli. The Prime Minister offered prayers at the Lord Brihadeshwara temple of the Chola period amid chanting of Vedic and Shaivite Thirumurai mantras. Highlighting the democratic values of the Chola Empire, he described it as one of the golden periods of Indian history. He praised the ‘Kudavolai system’ adopted by the Cholas and said that it shows that India has maintained democratic traditions even before Britain’s Magna Carta.

Sengol installed next to the Speaker’s seat in Lok Sabha
Right next to the Speaker’s seat in the Lok Sabha chamber in the new Parliament House, the sacred ‘Sengol’ brought from Tamil Nadu was installed. Before its installation in the new building, the high priests of various Adhinams or monasteries of Tamil Nadu handed over the historic ‘Sengol’ to Modi.
The Sengol is a gold-plated, silver scepter installed in the lower house of the Parliament of India. The scepter was handed over to India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru by the Tamil Adhinam in a ceremony symbolizing the transfer of power on the evening before India’s independence in 1947. The Sengol was kept in the Allahabad Museum for decades until it was moved to its current location at the inauguration of the new Parliament House by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May 2023.

The objective of this program is to re-establish the centuries-old relationship between the two oldest educational centers of the country – Tamil Nadu and Kashi.
