The court has given a big relief to Shiv Sena Uddhav faction MP Sanjay Raut. Sanjay Raut, convicted in a defamation case of Rs 100 crore, has got bail from the court. Let us tell you that Sanjay Raut was convicted in a defamation case filed by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya’s wife Medha Somaiya. Appearing in the court on Friday, Sanjay Raut requested bail. After this, the court has granted him bail on a bail bond of Rs 50,000.
What is the whole matter?
On September 26, Sanjay Raut was convicted in the defamation case. The court had sentenced Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut to 15 days in jail and also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000. However, the court had suspended this sentence for 30 days. So that Raut can challenge the order in the High Court. Now Sanjay Raut has filed a revision petition in the Sessions Court against the conviction and the jail sentence given by the magistrate court.
Defamation case of Rs 100 crore
Uddhav Thackeray faction leader Sanjay Raut had alleged that the Somaiya couple was involved in a scam of Rs 100 crore by misusing funds for toilet construction. After this, Medha Kirit Somaiya had complained against Sanjay Raut and filed a defamation case of Rs 100 crore.
What was Medha Somaiya’s argument?
Medha had said in her complaint filed in the Sewri Metropolitan Magistrate’s court that the allegations made by Sanjay Raut were baseless and of derogatory nature. The wife of former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya said that she was shocked to see the news that Raut had accused her and her husband of being involved in a scam of Rs 100 crore regarding the construction and maintenance of some public toilets in the area under the jurisdiction of Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation. In her complaint, Medha had said that the statements of the accused given before the media are defamatory. Statements were made to tarnish my image before the general public.
