The Defence Ministry has approved projects worth Rs 67,000 crore for the purchase of a range of weapons from BrahMos to Barak missiles and drones for the armed forces.

India’s Defense Ministry on Tuesday approved several major military projects for the purchase and maintenance of weapons for the armed forces. These projects are said to cost Rs 67,000 crore. The Defense Acquisition Council (DAC), headed by India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, has approved these projects. According to the information, the purpose of this purchase of weapons is to increase India’s military capability.

What will be purchased for the Navy?

The Defense Ministry has approved the purchase of Compact Autonomous Surface Craft, BrahMos Fire Control System and Launcher for the Indian Navy and the upgrade of Barak-1 Point Defense Missile System. Compact Autonomous Surface Craft will be purchased for the Navy to detect and neutralize threats in anti-submarine warfare operations.

What will be purchased for the Air Force?

The Defense Ministry has approved the purchase of mountain radar and upgrade of Saksham/Spider Weapon System for the Air Force. The purchase of mountain radar will increase the aerial surveillance capability along with keeping an eye on the borders in the mountainous region. At the same time, the upgrade of Saksham/Spider system will increase air defense.

What will be purchased for the Army?

The Defense Ministry has given initial approval for the purchase of ‘Thermal Imager-based Driver Night-Sight’ for BMP Infantry Combat Vehicles for the Indian Army.

List of other purchases

The Defense Ministry has also given initial approval for the purchase of ‘Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA)’ at medium altitude long range (MALE) for the three armies of India. Initial approval for maintenance of the fleet of C-17 and C-130J aircraft and the contract for comprehensive annual maintenance of S-400 air defense system have also been approved.
