While hearing the case, the Delhi High Court said that if the authorities cannot provide clean air for citizens to breathe, they can at least reduce the GST on air purifiers. The Delhi High Court asked, “What is the point of deadlines? When thousands of people are dying, every citizen needs clean air, and you have failed to provide it.”
Major directive to the GST Council
The Delhi High Court issued a major directive to the GST Council in view of the deteriorating air quality in the national capital. The High Court directed the GST Council to hold a meeting as soon as possible to consider reducing the GST on air purifiers. The court said that the Council should meet as soon as possible and consider reducing or eliminating the GST on air purifiers. The matter has now been listed for December 26.
What is the air quality in Delhi on Wednesday?
According to information provided by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s air quality improved slightly on Wednesday. Delhi’s AQI has moved from the ‘severe’ category to the ‘very poor’ category. On Wednesday morning, Delhi’s AQI was recorded at 336. On Tuesday, this figure was 415. It is worth noting that an AQI (Air Quality Index) between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, between 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, between 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, between 201 and 300 ‘poor’, between 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, and between 401 and 500 ‘severe’.
