The Economic Offenses Wing of Mumbai Police has arrested an accused who defrauded young people from several districts of Maharashtra of crores of rupees by promising them jobs in the central and state governments. A case was registered against the accused, Nilesh Kashiram Rathod, based on a complaint from complainant Santosh Ganpatrao Kharpude. The accused allegedly charged young people between ₹5 lakh and ₹15 lakh and provided them with fake medical tests and appointment letters.
The accused, Nilesh, is 33 years old and a resident of Bormali, Barshi, Akola. He previously worked for the CISF but has since been dismissed. Investigations have revealed that the accused has defrauded hundreds of young people in this manner since 2022.
Over ₹2 Crore Fraud
The Economic Offenses Wing of Mumbai Police has registered a case against the accused under various sections and arrested him. Initial estimates indicate the amount defrauded is ₹2.88 crore, but this figure could exceed ₹10 crore. A special police team was formed to arrest the accused. He was arrested on October 1st from the Dwarka Mod area of Delhi.
More than 60 complaints against the accused
The operation involved Assistant Police Inspector Nitin Pawar, Police Constable Mandar Rane, and Police Constable Sachin Nikam. Cases were registered against the accused in several police stations, including Mumbai, Pune, Akola, and Navi Mumbai, and he was absconding in all of them. More than 60 citizens have filed complaints against him so far. The investigation also revealed that the accused used the money obtained from the fraud for personal luxuries and the production of two Marathi films.
Victims urged to contact the Mumbai Police
The police have urged anyone who has been defrauded by Nilesh Rathod under the false promise of a job to immediately contact the Economic Offences Wing of the Mumbai Police. This action was carried out under the guidance of senior officers Nishith Mishra, Nimit Goyal, Rajesh Ojha, Sanjay Marathe, Nitin Patil, and Prashant Jadhav. The accused Nilesh has produced two films. The first film was a superhit. Now he is releasing his second film under the production house of his daughter Saanvi. The victims have appealed to protest this film as well.
