On Monday, Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Archana Patnaik released the final voter list following the completion of the Election Commission’s SIR process in the state. According to the final voter list, over 7.4 million names have been removed from the list. It should be noted that assembly elections are also scheduled in Tamil Nadu soon. The Election Commission is expected to announce the election dates in March. In such a situation, the removal of such a large number of names from the voter list is considered a major event.

What is the number of voters?

Before the SIR process began, the number of voters in Tamil Nadu was 64.1 million on October 27, 2025. According to the final SIR voter list released on February 23, 2026, the number of voters in Tamil Nadu has decreased to 56.7 million. Consequently, there are indications that more than 7.4 million names will be removed from the voter list in the state. Voters who have objections to the final voter list can contact officials to add or remove names after the final list is released. The Election Commission will also share the final roll with political parties.

Which constituency has the highest number of voters?
According to an advertisement issued by the Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu, the voter list includes 27 million men, 28 million women, and 7,617 third gender voters. The Shozhinganallur Assembly constituency in Chengalpattu district has the highest number of voters at 53.6 million. At the same time, the assembly constituency with the least number of voters is Harbour where there are 1.16 lakh voters.
