The government is soon going to bring a new law for the safety, management and regularity of Indians going abroad for employment. According to sources, the new law will replace the existing Immigration Act-1983. This information has come at a time when there is an uproar in India over the deportation of 104 illegal immigrants from America.

Government sources have informed that the Ministry of External Affairs is seriously considering this bill. For this, suggestions will also be sought from the common people. Immigration law will be made stricter in this bill. The report of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs tabled in Parliament on Monday has also recommended a complete change in the existing law. So that the interests of Indians can be protected.

All information should be provided at immigration counters
The committee has said that in states like Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, from where the maximum number of immigrants go, some more Protection of Immigrants Offices should be created. Also, all information should be provided to Indians going abroad at immigration counters.

A standing committee of Parliament said, the government is considering making a new law to create an enabling framework that will promote safe and regular migration for employment abroad. The proposed Overseas Mobility (Facilitation and Welfare) Bill, 2024 is an attempt to change the 1983 Act to facilitate the movement of those going abroad for employment.

This has come to light from the report of the Parliamentary Committee headed by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. It was presented in Parliament on Monday. The committee has said that the migration process in the country runs under the Migration Act of 1983. It is run by the Ministry of External Affairs through the Protector General of Emigrants (PGE).

The report said, in view of the current global migration environment and the needs of Indians, the committee has felt the need for legislative changes to change the old rules of the Emigration Act 1983. After a long time, the ministry is considering making a new law.
