The Israeli army has targeted Hezbollah’s central intelligence headquarters and killed 100 Hezbollah fighters in the last 24 hours.

Israel once again targeted Beirut with a series of air strikes on Friday and closed the main road link between Lebanon and Syria. The border point through which thousands of people fleeing Lebanon due to Israeli bombing enter Syria is located on this route.

Explosions overnight shook the southern suburbs of Beirut. Due to the air bombing, clouds of smoke and flames were seen rising at night. The explosions were so powerful that even buildings located several kilometers away from the Lebanese capital shook.

Central Intelligence Headquarters targeted
The Israeli army said that it targeted Hezbollah’s central intelligence headquarters around midnight. It did not say who its target was or whether any terrorist was killed in that attack. However, it claimed that it has killed 100 Hezbollah fighters in the last 24 hours.

More than 10 air strikes
Lebanon’s government National News Agency has reported more than 10 consecutive air strikes in the area. Meanwhile, the Israeli army said Hezbollah fired about 100 rockets into Israel on Friday. The Israeli army said in a statement on Friday that Mohammad Rashid Skaifi, the head of Hezbollah’s communications division, was killed in an attack in Beirut a day earlier.

Thousands of people fled into Syria
The statement said Skaifi was a top Hezbollah terrorist who had been working in the communications unit since 2000 and was closely associated with the organization’s top officials. The National News Agency reported that the Israeli airstrike cut off road links near the busy Masna border crossing, from where thousands of people fled into Syria due to the war in Lebanon in the past two weeks.

A day earlier, an Israeli military spokesman said Hezbollah was trying to transport military equipment across the border. Hezbollah is believed to have received most of its weapons from Iran via Syria. The organization has a presence on both sides of the border. In Syria, Hezbollah is fighting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s forces.

Expected to discuss war

The pro-government Syrian media outlet said Israeli warplanes fired two missiles, damaging a road between the Lebanese Masna border crossing and the Syrian crossing point Jdeidet Yabbous. This is the first time since the start of the war that this key cross-border road link has been cut off. Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Beirut on Friday, where he is expected to discuss the ongoing war between Israel and Hezbollah with Lebanese officials.

Araghchi’s visit to Beirut comes three days after Iran fired at least 180 missiles into Israel, the latest in a series of increasingly escalating attacks. The escalation of attacks has raised the risk of West Asia being dragged into a wider regional war.

Praise of Iran’s missile attack: Khamenei
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Health Ministry has said that 18 people have been killed in an Israeli attack on a refugee camp there. Iran is Hezbollah’s main supporter and has sent weapons and billions of dollars to the group in the past few years. In the capital Tehran, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei praised Iran’s recent missile attack on Israel in a speech after Friday prayers and said that his country is ready to launch more attacks if needed.

Two rockets fired at Israeli territory
The Israeli army said on Friday that militants in Gaza fired two rockets at Israeli territory. This is the first time Israel has seen rockets fired from the region in a month. The army said that one rocket was intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome missile-defense system and the other rocket fell in an open area near a kibbutz across the Gaza border.
