The NDA seat-sharing for the Bihar Assembly elections has been finalized. The BJP and JDU will contest 101 seats each. How did the BJP decide the seats for its NDA allies? Find out here.

The seat sharing within the NDA for the Bihar Assembly elections has been finalized. According to the allocation, the BJP and JDU are contesting an equal number of seats, i.e., 101 seats each. The demand of a faction of JDU leaders to contest one seat more than the BJP was rejected, and the two parties decided it was appropriate to coordinate and contest an equal number of seats.

Overall, the “big brother” (JDU) and “younger brother” (BJP) formula has been rejected in this election; they have now become equal partners. Furthermore, the smaller allies in the Bihar NDA, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), the Rashtriya Lok Morcha, and the HAM, have been allocated assembly seats based on their number of MPs. Accordingly, Chirag Paswan’s party, the LJP (Ram Vilas), deserves 30 assembly seats, but they received one less seat, and have decided to contest 29 seats.

Learn about the seat-sharing formula

According to sources, the NDA had already agreed to give Chirag Paswan 26 seats, but there was a deadlock over three seats, which later went to Chirag Paswan. Chirag managed to secure all three of his choice. These three seats were the most critical areas of debate, as the BJP has maintained a strong foothold there for years.

These three crucial seats that went to Chirag Paswan’s are Hisua in Nawada, Govindganj in Champaran, and Brahmapur in Buxar.

Which party will contest from where, decided

According to sources, Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha, a party with one MP, has been allocated six seats based on the formula of six assembly seats per MP. Upendra Kushwaha was also assured of a second Rajya Sabha election in 2026. Kushwaha has been allocated seats in Dinara, Bajpatti, Ujiarpur, Mahua, Sasaram, and Madhubani. Similarly, Jitan Ram Manjhi has been allocated six seats based on the six-seat-per-MP formula.

According to sources, Manjhi’s demand was primarily for seats in the Magadh and Shahabad regions. According to reports, Manjhi’s party, HAM, has been allocated seats in Tekari, Atari, Barachatti, Sikandra, Imamganj, and Kutumba. Three of these seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes. The announcement of NDA assembly ticket candidates will begin on Monday.
