India is continuously increasing its military power. In this episode, the next generation (NG) version of the country’s most lethal supersonic cruise missile BrahMos is going to be given to the Indian Air Force soon. This new missile will be smaller, lighter and faster than before, so that it can be easily fitted in small fighter jets.
The Indian Army, Navy and Air Force are already using the BrahMos missile, but now its next advanced version is being prepared, which will further strengthen India’s air power in 2026. The Indian Air Force will get BrahMos NG (Next Generation) by the end of next year. Work on this is in the advanced stage.
What is BrahMos-NG?
BrahMos-NG is a lighter and advanced version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. It is 30 percent smaller and thinner than the existing BrahMos missile. It is being developed by BrahMos Aerospace, a joint venture between Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia. It will be 30% lighter and smaller than the previous BrahMos missile, which will allow it to be carried by more aircraft and launched faster.
Features of BrahMos-NG
Supersonic speed and long strike range Speed: Mach 3.5 (3.5 times faster than the speed of sound) Range: 300 to 400 kilometres
Will also be deployed in small fighter jets The old BrahMos versions used to fit only in heavy fighter aircraft like Sukhoi-30MKI, but BrahMos-NG can also be deployed in light fighter jets like Sukhoi 30 MKI, Tejas, Mirage-2000 and MiG-29.
This will increase the firepower and flexibility of the Indian Air Force.
Lighter and more effective design The weight will be only 1.5 tonnes (the earlier Brahmos weighed 2.5-3 tonnes). The length will be 5 meters, which will make it easily fit in the weapon bay of a small aircraft. The new version will be more fuel-efficient, which will increase the range of the mission.
Smart electronic system equipped with modern technology: New advanced navigation system and electronic warfare capability. Equipped with AI: Ability to track and hit the target with more accuracy.
When will the Air Force get Brahmos-NG?
The final trial of Brahmos-NG is going on. It will be included in the Indian Air Force by the end of 2026. In the first phase, it will be integrated on fighter jets like Sukhoi, Tejas, Mirage-2000 and MiG-29. After this, it will also be developed for the Indian Navy and Army, so that it gets full capability to attack from water, land and air.
Benefits of Brahmos-NG
- Indian Air Force’s strike capability will increase Small and light fighter jets will also be able to carry supersonic cruise missiles.
- Fast launch and more effective attacks Supersonic speed and modern navigation system will not give the enemy a chance to escape.
- Ability to fit in small aircraft Earlier only heavy fighter jets could carry Brahmos, but now light aircraft will also be able to use it.
- Strengthening the self-reliant India mission Brahmos-NG will focus completely on indigenous production, which will further strengthen India’s defense technology.
Brahmos-NG will prove to be a game-changer missile
Brahmos-NG will prove to be a game-changer missile for the Indian Air Force. Its lightweight design, supersonic speed and ability to fit in small fighter planes make it a very dangerous weapon. Next year the Indian Air Force will include it in its strength, which will greatly increase the country’s air defense and attack capability.
