Mumbai: Tuesday was the last day for filing nominations for the Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections. The scrutiny of nomination papers began on Wednesday. Amidst this, a significant political development has emerged.
The nominations of the BJP and Shinde Sena candidates in two wards of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation have been rejected. As a result, the Mahayuti alliance has been eliminated from the electoral race in these two wards even before the polling. This is considered a major setback for the Mahayuti alliance ahead of the elections.
What is the whole matter?
In Mumbai’s Ward No. 211 and 212, the Mahayuti alliance now has no candidate in the fray. Ward No. 211 was allocated to the Shinde Sena within the Mahayuti alliance, but the Shinde Sena candidate’s nomination was not accepted due to the non-submission of necessary documents.
Similarly, the nomination of BJP candidate Mandakini Khamkar in Ward No. 212 was also rejected. According to reports, Khamkar arrived at the office 15 minutes late to file her nomination after receiving the AB form, due to which her nomination was not accepted.
The elimination of the BJP and Shinde Sena candidates from these two wards (211 and 212) is considered a major political blow to the Mahayuti alliance. There is now speculation that the Mahayuti might support an independent candidate in these wards.
Meanwhile, in Ward No. 212, Shrivani Haldankar from the MNS, part of the Thackeray brothers’ alliance, is in the electoral fray. She faces challenges from Gita Gawli of the Akhil Bharatiya Sena, and candidates from the Congress and other parties. However, given the combined political strength of the Thackeray brothers in this area, Haldankar’s victory is considered almost certain. This makes it highly probable that the MNS will open its account in Ward 212.
