The pilgrimage to the famous Mata Vaishno Devi temple located in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir remained closed for the 17th consecutive day. However, the relief is that the weather conditions in the Jammu region have now improved a lot and the administration has indicated that the pilgrimage can be resumed soon.

The situation worsened due to cloudburst

On August 26, there was a sudden cloudburst and landslide in Adhkuwari located in the Trikuta hills of Katra. 34 devotees were killed and about 20 people were injured in this accident. Immediately after the incident, the pilgrimage was stopped for security reasons.

Repair work almost complete

The administration said that large-scale repair and cleaning work was going on on the way to the cave temple, which is now almost complete. Officials say that the announcement of resumption of the pilgrimage can be made by Saturday or Sunday.

Security is the biggest priority

Officials have made it clear that there will be no compromise on the safety of the pilgrims. Therefore, the yatra will be resumed only after the situation becomes normal and the route is completely safe. The administration has appealed to the devotees not to pay attention to rumors and wait for official information.

Lakhs of devotees reach Katra every year to visit Mata Vaishno Devi. Due to the yatra being closed for a long time, devotees are waiting to get a chance to visit as soon as possible. Local businessmen and hoteliers are also hopeful that their livelihood will be back on track with the start of the yatra.

According to the officials, the final decision will be taken after taking stock of the situation in the next 1-2 days. If everything goes well, the way to Vaishno Devi Yatra will be opened for the devotees by the end of the week.
