The Punjab Cabinet led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has approved the promulgation of an ordinance to provide adequate representation to the Scheduled Caste community in contractual recruitment as law officers in the state.

The Punjab Cabinet led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has approved the issuance of an Ordinance to provide adequate representation to the Scheduled Caste community in the recruitment of Law Officers on contract basis in the State. The decision in this regard was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister at his official residence today.

A spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said the Cabinet approved the issuance of an Ordinance to amend the Punjab Law Officers (Engagement) Act, 2017 to relax the income criteria for appointment of Law Officers belonging to the Scheduled Caste community in the State on contract basis. The relaxation in income criteria is aimed at providing adequate representation to the members of the Scheduled Caste community for appointment on contract basis as Law Officers in the A.G.’s Office, Punjab.

Relief to allottees of Improvement Trusts

In another important decision, the Cabinet also approved the policy for grant of One Time Relief (OTR) in respect of non-construction charges and outstanding allotment amount to allottees of Improvement Trusts in the State. This decision will give great relief to the allottees as their interest will be waived off.

Consent for reorganization of blocks
The Cabinet has also given the green signal to reorganize and rationalize the existing blocks in the state to increase geographical and administrative reach, improve work efficiency, reduce expenditure and maintain legislative coordination. Reorganization of these blocks is required to ensure better administration in the larger public interest. It is worth mentioning that at present there are 154 blocks and due to many ambiguities, difficulties are faced in running the administration smoothly in these blocks.

Retirement age of doctors-professors increased
In another important decision, the Cabinet has increased the retirement age in medical colleges under the Department of Medical Education and Research from the existing 62 years to 65 years. This decision will help in providing quality education in medical colleges, which will greatly benefit the students studying in these colleges.

Green signal to the services of retired doctors if needed
The Cabinet has approved the use of retired doctors to deal with the shortage of doctors in government hospitals. The services of these doctors will be taken every year if required in public interest.
