The serious negligence at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Mangolpuri, Delhi, has raised serious questions about the capital’s healthcare system. Find out what happened.

Serious negligence at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Mangolpuri, Delhi, has raised serious questions about the capital’s healthcare system. The body of Pankaj, a resident of Prem Nagar, was mistakenly handed over to the family of Bharat Bhushan of Nangloi, sparking a heated debate. Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Devendra Yadav described the incident as administrative insensitivity and expressed strong displeasure over the silence of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and the Health Minister.

Delhi Congress President Devendra Yadav stated that due to the negligence of Sanjay Gandhi Hospital management and the police administration, a family mistakenly performed the last rites of another person, while the family of the actual deceased, Pankaj, received only his ashes. He stated that this incident not only raises questions about the hospital’s functioning but also hurts religious sentiments.

One family had to perform two last rites
Devendra Yadav explained that two different individuals, Bharat Bhushan and Pankaj, died in suicide and falling from the roof. After the post-mortem, the hospital administration mistakenly handed over Pankaj’s body to Bharat Bhushan’s family. As a result, a family faced the social and religious hardship of performing two funerals.

Congress Questions Government’s Silence
Yadav accused Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and the Health Minister, saying that their silence on such a serious matter indicates that the government wants to cover up this negligence. He said, “The public is already suffering from the chaos, shortage of medicines, and poor treatment facilities in Delhi’s government hospitals. Now, incidents like body swapping are the height of insensitivity.”

Demands Strict Action Against the Guilty
The Congress President said that although DCP Rohini is investigating the case, a mere investigation is not enough for such a grave negligence. He demanded that the Chief Minister personally intervene and that an FIR be filed, along with immediate strict action against the police personnel and hospital staff involved. He said, “This is not just an administrative lapse, but also a case that hurts social and religious sentiments.”
