Police say the clashes erupted in Bellary between supporters of Congress MLA Nara Bharat Reddy and BJP MLA G. Janardhan Reddy over the installation of banners. One person died in the incident. However, police claim the situation is now under control.

According to initial reports, Janardhan Reddy’s supporters objected to Bharat Reddy’s supporters putting up banners in front of their leader’s house in Hawambhavi Nagar. The dispute escalated, and supporters from both sides allegedly began throwing stones. As the atmosphere became tense, former minister Sriramulu arrived at the scene. Meanwhile, Satish Reddy, a close associate of Congress MLA Nara Bharat Reddy, also reached the spot.

During this time, private gunmen opened fire. Police also fired into the air to control the situation. Congress worker Rajasekhar died in the firing. However, it is not yet known who shot the Congress worker.

Police say some people from both groups threw stones at their opponents and the police officers who arrived at the scene. After initial attempts to disperse the crowd failed, police resorted to lathi-charge and fired tear gas shells to bring the situation under control.

Regarding the tension, police said that tension spread in the city on Thursday after the clash over the banners. Rumors also spread that a person had died during the firing, although police had not confirmed any deaths at that time.

However, a video that went viral on social media allegedly shows a private gunman firing shots into the air, further escalating tensions in the area. The clash occurred ahead of the unveiling ceremony of the Valmiki statue in Bellary on Saturday. As the situation became tense due to the clash, the police deployed additional forces as a precautionary measure.

Later, BJP MLA Janardhan Reddy alleged that Bellary city MLA Bharat Reddy, his close associate Satish Reddy, and Bharat Reddy’s father Nara Suryanarayana Reddy had conspired to kill him. He also claimed that gunmen fired in front of his house under the pretext of a banner dispute.

He further alleged that as soon as he arrived from Gangavathi and got out of his car, Satish Reddy’s gunmen suddenly started firing. He said that the gunmen allegedly fired four to five rounds. He also showed the bullets, which he claimed were fired during the clash.

Janardhan alleged that an attempt was being made to “set the city on fire” under the guise of installing a Valmiki statue, and he accused Bharat Reddy of using criminals and goons to intimidate him. Police said that an investigation is underway to ascertain the sequence of events and verify the allegations.
