The Supreme Court on Friday intervened for the first time in the decision of the Himachal Pradesh Collegium and cancelled it, in which the candidature of two senior district judges was ignored for promotion to the High Court. The Supreme Court said that the Chief Justice cannot personally reject the candidature of a judicial officer for appointment as a High Court judge.
In fact, the Supreme Court has accepted the petition of two senior district judges and cancelled the selection process of the Collegium. The bench of Justices Rishikesh Roy and Prashant Mishra said that the decision of the Collegium was affected because the Chief Justice of the High Court had decided not to reconsider the names of two district judges.

Let us tell you that the Supreme Court has intervened in the matter of not considering two judicial officers for High Court judgeship. The court has cancelled the decision of the Himachal Pradesh High Court Chief Justice not to consider. The Supreme Court said that the Chief Justice cannot personally reject the candidature of a judicial officer for appointment as HC judge.
Selection of High Court Judges
In its decision, the Supreme Court asked to consider the candidature of District Judges Chirag Bhanu Singh and Arvind Malhotra for selection as High Court judges. Their names were sent to the High Court for reconsideration by the Supreme Court Collegium. But the High Court Collegium did not do so.
Entitled to promotion in High Court
Let us tell you that two senior district judges of Himachal Pradesh had filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the decision of the Himachal Pradesh Collegium. In this, both the judges had said that they were entitled to promotion in the High Court but their candidature was ignored. After the hearing, the Supreme Court has rejected the decision of the Collegium for the first time. Accepting the petition, the Supreme Court canceled the selection process of the Collegium done earlier this year.
