This law has been brought to create a dispute between Hindus and Muslims in the country. It has been brought to increase the dispute between the people of both religions. The purpose of this bill is only to humiliate and disgrace Muslims and make them second class citizens. The Congress party strongly opposes this law as it attacks the basic idea of India and violates Article 25, the right to religious freedom.”

It is only because of the party whip and two colleagues that they managed to get it passed. This is a very dark day for the secular democracy of India, where the government has come up with a bill which is unfair and against fundamental rights. The amendments are affecting the Muslim community very badly.”

Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, while placing the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 in the Lok Sabha for discussion and passage, also said that through this, the government and the Waqf Board will not interfere in any religious work of any religious institution including mosques. Rejecting the claims of opposition parties against the Waqf Amendment Bill, he said that when a comprehensive law was made in 1995 with several amendments, no one said that it was unconstitutional and illegal. Rijiju said, “Today when we are bringing it after improving it, it seems unconstitutional.

Rein will be imposed on those who sell Waqf properties

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that this law is being brought to get out of it those who sell Waqf properties. He said that the purpose of this amendment bill is to catch those who rent out Waqf land for hundred years at a very low price. Shah said, “The Waqf Board will catch this money which is stolen.” Targeting the opposition parties, he said that the collusion going on in his state (for Waqf land) will not work now. The Home Minister said, “They say do not keep accounts of it (Waqf property), but this money is for the poor of the country and not for the rich to steal.” Shah claimed that within four years of the bill becoming a law, the Muslim brothers will know that this law is in their benefit.

SP and Congress said – the problem will increase
SP supremo Akhilesh Yadav said in the Lok Sabha that the government brought the Waqf (Amendment) Bill to cover up its failure and this is the “political stubbornness” of the ruling BJP and “a new form of its communal politics”. While participating in the discussion on the bill, he said that the issues related to Wakf which were to be decided have not been given importance in this bill. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi alleged in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that the government has its eyes on the land of a particular community. He claimed that if the existing Wakf law is amended, litigation will increase in the country. While beginning the discussion on the Wakf (Amendment) Bill in the House, he said that he is not saying that amendment is not needed, but amendment should be done and “we are not against it.” Gogoi said, “This should be done to make the law stronger but this bill will increase problems in the country, issues will increase and litigation will also increase.”
