There was a border clash between the security forces of both countries on the Torkham border between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Torkham crossing has been closed for the last 11 days due to which trade has also come to a standstill

Peshawar: Pakistani and Afghan forces exchanged gunfire at a key border crossing early Monday. The site has been closed for more than a week due to a dispute between the two neighbouring countries. No casualties were reported on either side of the Torkham crossing in the firing. Officials from both countries held a meeting on Sunday to open the border and restore peace but no solution was found to the issue.

Pakistan objects to this

Pakistan has objected to the construction of a new border post by Afghanistan, due to which the crossing has been closed for 11 days. Both countries had earlier also closed the Torkham and southwestern Chaman border crossings due to firing. These crossings are important for trade and travel between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Taliban security forces opened fire

A Pakistani official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Taliban security forces opened fire with automatic weapons targeting a Pakistani border post without any provocation early Monday. The official said Pakistani personnel also retaliated. There was no immediate comment from the Taliban government in Kabul.
