Thiruvananthapuram: Significant news has emerged regarding the Sri Padmanatha Swamy Temple, located within the East Fort of Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala. Allegations of missing gold have surfaced from the temple. Although the missing gold was recovered within the temple premises, the police registered a case and investigated the matter based on a complaint from the temple management.
What did the investigation reveal?
The investigation revealed that the CCTV cameras were not working when the gold coins were removed from the strong room for gold plating. As part of the investigation, the Fort Police appealed to the Thiruvananthapuram Judicial First Class Magistrate Court for permission to conduct polygraph tests on six temple employees, which the court has now granted.
According to police sources, it is not yet clear whether this incident was an attempted theft or the result of negligence. They stated that lie-detection tests, while not admissible as evidence in court, could help identify inconsistencies in the employees’ statements and provide crucial clues to solving this case.
According to a police complaint filed by the temple management, 13 gold coins weighing approximately 107 grams, taken out of the strong room for gold plating the sanctum sanctorum door, went missing between May 7 and 10 this year. However, all of these coins were later found within the temple premises.
