A horrific road accident occurred in Mangaluru, Karnataka. Three people were killed when two tankers, an auto rickshaw, and a sports utility vehicle (SUV) collided at the Panambur intersection on Saturday morning, police said.
How the accident happened
According to police, the accident occurred when a gas tanker coming from Mulki to Mangaluru suddenly stopped to avoid a cow that had crossed the road. Initial reports indicated that an auto rickshaw and a car following the tanker managed to stop in time.
Auto occupants killed
Suddenly, another tanker coming at high speed behind these vehicles suffered brake failure and collided with the SUV. The impact of the collision also impacted the auto rickshaw, killing the driver and two passengers on the spot. Three people were killed in the accident.
The SUV and tanker drivers survived. The identification of the deceased is ongoing. However, the drivers of the SUV and the tanker escaped unhurt. The accident disrupted traffic on the busy Mangaluru-Udupi highway for about an hour. Local police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
