Tokyo Quad Meeting: The Quad group on Monday called for concrete action against all UN-listed terrorist groups, including Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and their affiliated organizations. The group, indirectly referring to Pakistan, urged all countries to take immediate, sustained and irreversible action to prevent their territory from being used for terrorist purposes.

In a joint statement issued after the meeting of the foreign ministers of the four-nation group Quad, the Quad ministers categorically condemned all forms of terrorism and violent extremism, including cross-border terrorism. The Quad includes India, the US, Japan and Australia. The meeting was attended by External Affairs Minister Jaishankar, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Japan’s Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa and Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong.

Quad group calls for action against terrorism
The Quad group statement said, ‘We re-condemn the attacks in Mumbai on 26 November 2008, and other terrorist attacks, including the Pathankot attacks. We call for bringing those who carried out these attacks to justice without delay.’

The ministers condemned the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), drones, tunnels and information and communication technologies by terrorists and terrorist organizations.

The Quad urged all countries to prevent the use of territory under their control for terrorist purposes. And for this, take immediate, sustained and irreversible action.

Without naming anyone, the statement said, ‘We reiterate the call for concrete action against all terrorist groups listed by the United Nations, including Al-Qaeda, ISIS/Daish, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and their proxy groups.

Pakistan has been repeatedly accused by its neighboring countries of harboring terrorist organizations, including Al-Qaeda, Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba and their proxy groups. The two-day foreign ministerial meeting of the Quad group concluded in Tokyo, Japan.

The joint statement said, ‘We are committed to international cooperation. We are working with our international and regional partners in a comprehensive and continuous manner to strengthen their ability to prevent, detect and respond to threats posed by terrorism and violent extremism.
