Trump-Zelensky Meet: The heated debate between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House gave rise to questions? Zelensky has been Trump’s target

Trump-Zelensky Meet: The heated debate between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky in the White House has given rise to two important questions. First- How will Ukraine face Russia without American help? Second- What will be the future of NATO, to join which Zelensky took the risk of war with Russia, which has become a question of existence for Ukraine today.

Zelensky has been on Trump’s target

What happened in the White House on Friday (28 February 2025) was not very surprising, because Trump has been constantly targeting Ukraine and Zelensky and was blaming Kiev for the war. He has even called Zelensky a dictator. Trump started peace talks with Russia on the Ukraine crisis. No European country, including Ukraine, was included in this conversation held in Riyadh.

The gap in US-Ukraine relations will have to be filled

The US-Ukraine alliance, which stood strong during the reign of former President Joe Biden, has now collapsed. All experts agree that it is almost impossible for Ukraine to win the war against Russia without American help. Zelensky faced perhaps the biggest challenge of his presidency on Friday. What are his options now? Experts believe that the road ahead is very difficult. He will either have to magically heal the rift in US-Ukraine relations or somehow save his country without America.

Will everything be fine by resigning?

One way could be to step down, giving someone else a chance to lead the country. This is an easier option than the other options, but there are many risks in it too. Stepping down from power can benefit Russia, because doing so can create a crisis on the front line, political clarity can end, the legitimacy of the government in Kiev can also be affected, conducting a transparent election during the war is also a big challenge that is difficult to overcome.

Danger looms over NATO

Just as the future of Ukraine looks bleak, the question of what will happen to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has also come under question. Many doubts and questions have arisen about America’s commitment to European security outside Ukraine. The biggest question is whether President Trump will keep the promise made by his predecessor Harry Truman in 1949 that an attack on a NATO ally would be considered an attack on America.

The United States has been a pioneer and founding member of NATO. The formation of NATO reversed the traditional foreign policy of the United States, which was based on isolation. Due to this policy, America stayed out of World War I and World War II as much as possible. On both occasions, attacks on its naval assets ultimately pushed it into a state of war.

However, Donald Trump is walking on a completely different path. He had clearly said in the past that Ukraine should forget NATO membership. He said, “NATO, you can forget about it. I think that’s probably the reason this all started.” Clearly, the three-year Russia-Ukraine war has created a major crisis not only for Ukraine but for the whole of Europe.
