Union Home Minister Amit Shah discussed terrorism, drug trafficking, border security, and technological challenges in a meeting with over 800 officials at the two-day National Security Summit in Delhi.

Home Minister Amit Shah held physical and virtual meetings with about 800 security officials across the country in the two-day National Security Conference in Delhi. During this, he said that fighting the forces that intend to disrupt India’s growing economic credibility at the global level and dealing with the challenges of national security will be the first priority of the security agencies.

On the first day of the meeting on Saturday, Home Minister Amit Shah discussed the role of anti-national external elements and their domestic relations, including involvement in the drug trade. Along with this, the focus was on the challenges posed by the illegal use of encrypted communication apps and other new technologies, the use of technology for crowd management and the security of vacant islands.

Issues related to terrorism financing were also discussed in the meeting. The Home Minister gave several instructions regarding better inter-agency coordination between central and state enforcement agencies to bring back fugitives involved in terrorist and smuggling activities, as well as disrupting the mutual nexus of terrorist-criminal nexus. Instructions were given to the officials to create a common platform with all operators of the spectrum to counter the use of encrypted communications by terrorist networks.

Security challenges will have to be dealt with better coordination

At the same time, on the second day of the conference on Sunday, the focus was on civil aviation and port security, prevention of terrorism, action against left wing extremism and drug trafficking. In the closing speech on the second and last day of the conference, Home Minister Amit Shah said that the challenges of national security will increase further in the coming days as a result of India’s growing stature in the economy. Security challenges will have to be dealt with better coordination.

The Home Minister directed in the meeting that there is a need to form homogeneous teams of central and state agencies to formulate strategies for national security, implement them and monitor them. He directed that young police officers of each state should be included in the brainstorming to find solutions to national challenges.

The next 5-10 years are very important from the security point of view
The Home Minister directed that young police officers should be motivated to use the national database of fugitives prepared by NATGRID, NIDAAN, iMoT and CBI and it should be included in all their training programs. The Home Minister told the officers present in the meeting that the next 5 to 10 years are very important from the point of view of security and development of the country.

Without naming Pakistan or any country, he said that in view of the geopolitical conditions of the neighboring country, the challenges of the internal security of the country can remain dynamic. In such a situation, both the state police forces and central security agencies were instructed to adopt the mantra of security, vigilance and coordination. The Home Minister directed the Director Generals of Police from across the country to make the goal of making India drug-free in the next three years their main agenda. Also, develop a reliable platform for sharing real time information at the police station level.

Need to further enhance police capacity
Underlining the importance of security of small ports located on maritime borders, Home Minister Amit Shah said that there is a need to further enhance the capacity of state police to deal with infiltration and smuggling. He reviewed anti-terrorism efforts and directed to take strict legal action against repeat offenders. The Home Minister emphasized on improving and streamlining the security system in the field of airports and civil aviation.
