The Union Home Ministry has asked all states to conduct mock drills on May 7 in view of the new and complex threats emerging amid rising tensions with Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack. The Home Ministry’s letter to the Chief Secretaries of all states and Union Territories said that the measures to be taken during the mock drill include operating air raid warning sirens, training citizens on security aspects to protect themselves in case of any attack, and cleaning of bunkers and trenches.

The mock drill also includes operating hotlines and radio-communication links with the Air Force, testing the functionality of control rooms and shadow control rooms. The letter issued by the Directorate General of Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guards said that new and complex threats/challenges have emerged in the current geopolitical scenario, so it would be prudent that optimal civil defence preparedness is maintained in the states/UTs at all times.
