United Nations: The United Nations (UN) can no longer see the pain of Gaza residents, UN chief Antonio Guterres appealed to the world for financial help to the Palestinians suffering from the situation

United Nations: The United Nations (UN) can no longer see the pain of the people of Gaza. The people of Gaza, who have been facing the horrors of war for several months, are now forced to wander from door to door. UN chief Antonio Guterres has appealed to the world for financial help to the Palestinians affected by the situation. Guterres has appealed to finance the troubled UN agency that helps Palestinian refugees in Gaza and other parts of West Asia. He accused Israel of issuing evacuation orders, forcing Palestinians to move from one place to another like a ‘human pinball’ in a scenario of ‘destruction and death.’

Creating a ‘human pinball’ means suddenly sending people from one place to another. UN Secretary-General Guterres said at a conference of donors that the agency known as UNRWA is facing a huge shortage of funding. UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said at the start of the conference that the agency only had funds to operate until August. He told reporters that the total balance would not be known before next week, but he was confident that enough new funds would come into its annual budget of US$850 million to keep the agency operating until the end of September.

US$1.2 billion aid sought for Gaza

UNRWA’s 30,000 staff provide education and primary health care to nearly 6 million Palestinian refugees in Gaza, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria, as well as other development activities. Lazzarini said that in the coming months UNRWA would seek funds to continue its operations until December. He said that US$1.2 billion would be sought under the emergency appeal for the Gaza war and US$460 million for the Syria crisis, both of which are only 20 percent funded.
