The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh is set to announce its new state president on Sunday (December 14). Pankaj Chaudhary filed his nomination for the post on Saturday (December 13). Union Minister of State Pankaj Chaudhary is considered the frontrunner for the UP state president’s position.
Meanwhile, there is a flurry of activity from Delhi to Lucknow. While the focus was initially only on the election of the BJP president, discussions have now begun about a cabinet expansion in the Yogi Adityanath government. It is claimed that not only BJP MLAs but also legislators from its alliance partners may be sworn in as ministers during this expansion.
According to sources, the state may also get a new Deputy Chief Minister. Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti’s name is being considered for this position. Additionally, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s son and MLA Pankaj Singh may also be included in the Yogi government as a minister.

On the election of the state president, BJP leader Kapil Dev Agarwal said, “A very remarkable personality is being considered. He is a seven-time MP and started his political career as a corporator… When the leadership is grounded, it understands the sentiments of the workers and knows how to give momentum to the organization… We will all work to strengthen the BJP under his leadership.”

Pankaj Chaudhary said – I will speak when the announcement is made
Although the formal announcement of the UP BJP state president is yet to be made, prospective state president Pankaj Chaudhary made a significant statement, saying that any infiltrator who has entered this country should be expelled. He said that the nomination papers have certainly been filed, and he will speak when the announcement is made at 2 PM. On the question of future plans at the party organizational level, he said that he has been a party worker from the beginning, and if given the responsibility, he will fulfill it completely.
Traffic diversions in Lucknow due to BJP state president’s announcement
Traffic diversions will be in effect today in the Ashiana area of Lucknow due to an announcement by the BJP state president. The traffic diversion is due to a VVIP program at Ambedkar Auditorium, RML Law University at 1 PM. Therefore, traffic will be restricted from Parag Tiraaha towards Bhimrao Ambedkar University. Vehicles coming from Parag Tiraaha will have to take the Old Chungi road, and traffic will not be allowed from Power House Chowk towards the university. However, ambulances, hearses, fire engines, and school buses have been granted special permission.

He is considered a trusted confidant of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
After filing his nomination for the UP BJP post, Union Minister Pankaj Chaudhary told ABP News that he did not know whether anyone else had filed a nomination or not. He said that the official announcement would be made by Piyush Goyal tomorrow. He also said that this is a big responsibility and he will dedicate himself wholeheartedly to the entire state and work towards the 2027 elections.
