Questions are often raised about the cleanliness system of the city in Bareilly district of UP, but on Tuesday morning a different scene was seen. When Municipal Commissioner IAS Sanjeev Kumar Maurya went out for a morning walk as usual, he saw the dirt and picked up a shovel himself and started cleaning the drain. The matter is of Kunwarpur and Maheshpur Ataria Ward, where the drains had not been cleaned for months. The Municipal Commissioner got angry at not getting the cleaning done and not only called the employees on the spot, but also started cleaning himself by using a shovel.
Actually, on Tuesday morning, Sanjeev Kumar Maurya was walking on City Station Road. While walking, he went towards Kunwarpur and Maheshpur Ataria Ward. Here he saw that the drains were completely filled with dirt, covered with cow dung and mud. There had been no cleaning for months. There was a foul smell coming from the drains and the dirt had flowed to the road. Seeing this, the Municipal Commissioner got angry. He immediately called the suburban health officer Dr. Nain Singh to the spot and expressed his displeasure over the negligence of the employees.
He himself started cleaning the drain with a shovel.
Seeing the condition of the dirt, the Municipal Commissioner without any hesitation picked up the shovel himself and started cleaning the drain. Seeing this, the people around gathered there. He told that the sanitation workers have not come to the area for months. Complaints were also made several times, but no hearing was done. The garbage coming out of the dairies built near the drains and the soil falling from the houses have completely blocked the drains.
When an employee tried to stop the Municipal Commissioner, he scolded him too. Later, the suburban health officer Dr. Nain Singh also picked up the shovel and started cleaning. This step of the Municipal Commissioner started a discussion among the people and many people took photos of him cleaning and made it viral on social media.
Give the report of cleaning in three days, notice issued
The Municipal Commissioner has issued a notice to Municipal Health Officer Dr. Bhanu Prakash on the poor condition of the cleaning system. The order states that areas including Azamnagar ward, which have sewerage and drain problems, should be cleaned within three days and a report should be submitted. He directed that cleanliness should be ensured at places where drains are choked in the entire city and the officers themselves should monitor the cleaning.
This step of the Municipal Commissioner has become an example, where on one hand questions are raised on the working style of the officers, on the other hand this effort of Sanjeev Kumar Maurya shows that if the officers want, they can start the change by coming down to the field themselves.
Local people appreciated
People have appreciated this effort of the Municipal Commissioner. Local resident Ravi Gupta said, for the first time I have seen a big officer cleaning the drain himself. Now it is expected that the sanitation workers will also take their work seriously. At the same time, the pictures of the Municipal Commissioner are also going viral on social media and people are praising him.
