The troubles of senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan are showing no signs of abating. MP MLA Court has rejected the appeal of jailed Azam Khan in the hate speech case. Azam Khan had filed an appeal against the two-year sentence. This case is related to hate speech during the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign. A case was registered against Azam Khan in 2019 under section 171G/505(1)(B), 125 Public Representation in Shahzadnagar police station. In this, MP MLA Court found Azam Khan guilty and sentenced him. The court had sentenced Azam Khan to two years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 2500. He had filed an appeal in the Sessions Court challenging this decision, but he has not got any relief. After hearing all the arguments, the court has rejected Azam Khan’s appeal today.

What was the matter?

On April 18, 2019, during a public meeting in Dhamora village of Shahzadnagar police station area of Rampur, Azam Khan was accused of making objectionable remarks against people holding constitutional posts, the video of which also went viral. After that, on behalf of ADO Cooperative Anil Chauhan, a case of hate speech was registered against Azam Khan in Shahzadnagar police station under section 171G/505(1)(B), 125 Public Representation.
When did the court pronounce the sentence?

MP MLA Magistrate Court heard the entire case against Azam Khan on 15 July 2023. While giving the verdict in this case, the court had sentenced Azam Khan to two years imprisonment and to pay a fine of Rs 2500. An appeal was filed by Azam Khan’s side against this punishment in the MP MLA Sessions Court, the decision on which has come today and this appeal has been rejected.

Shiv Prakash Pandey, senior prosecution officer, said that the court of Dr. Vijay Kumar Audition Session Judge, while delivering the verdict today, has rejected Azam Khan’s appeal against the sentence. The accused Azam Khan was punished with two years of simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2500 by the Court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate/Special Court MP MLA Rampur. Against the said order, appeal number 57/2023 was filed by the accused Azam Khan in the Special Court MP MLA Additional Sessions Judge Rampur, in which after the arguments of both the parties, the court rejected the said appeal of the accused.
