On the occasion of Republic Day, Director General of Police (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar and 82 other police officers were awarded the President’s Medal. The medals include two for gallantry, seven for distinguished services and 74 for meritorious service.
Prashant Kumar, who received the President’s Medal for Gallantry, received this honor for safely rescuing a doctor kidnapped from New Delhi.
Kumar, who was then ADG of Meerut zone, along with SSP of Meerut Manzil Saini, were tracking the whereabouts of Dr. Shrikant Gaur, who was kidnapped from Preet Vihar Metro Heart and Cancer Hospital, Delhi on July 6, 2017.
After the kidnapping of Dr. Shrikant Gaur, the criminals had demanded a ransom of Rs 5 crore. On July 19, Meerut Police along with Delhi Police rescued Dr Gaur safely, for which both Kumar and Saini received the President’s Medal for Gallantry.
Apart from other medals, this is the fourth President’s Medal received by Kumar. He received the first Medal for Gallantry in 2020, President’s Medal for Meritorious Service in 2021, President’s Medal for Gallantry (First Time) in 2021 and President’s Medal for Gallantry (Second Time) in 2022.
