The debate about the encounter of criminals in Uttar Pradesh is always heated. Some time ago, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav had alleged that the UP Police encounters people on the basis of caste. He had also said that people of Yadav community are being deliberately encountered. However, the figures of UP Police tell a different story, which exposes Akhilesh’s lies.
207 criminals killed in 12,525 encounters
Yogi Adityanath became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 2017. From the year 2017 till now, a total of 12,525 encounters have taken place in UP in these seven years. In this, 207 criminals and mafia were killed and more than 6 thousand were injured. Out of 207, the highest number of 66 criminals have been killed in Meerut zone. The responsibility of this entire operation in Meerut zone has been taken over by the current DIG STF Kuldeep Narayan Yadav, while 21 criminals in Varanasi zone and 16 criminals in Agra zone have been killed in encounters with the police.
17 policemen also martyred
In the seven years from 2017 till now, 17 policemen have also been martyred while taking on criminals, while 1500 have been injured. The caste of 207 criminals killed in the encounter was found out and allegations were made that the police and especially the STF are targeting people of a particular caste and religion, while wanted criminals in serious cases are being given amnesty. However, when the UP Police data was seen that how many criminals of which caste have been killed among the 207 criminals killed in the encounters since 2017, the reality turned out to be something else.
