US: President Donald Trump – India will no longer buy oil from Russia, PM Narendra Modi assured him of this.

Washington: US President Donald Trump made a major claim about India. Trump said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured him that India will no longer buy oil from Russia. He described this as a major step in his efforts to increase pressure on Moscow. Trump said that this is part of his efforts to isolate Russia due to the Ukraine war.

What did Trump say?

While speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said, “I was not happy that India was buying oil from Russia, but Prime Minister Modi has assured me that India will no longer do so.” Calling it a major step, Trump said that now we expect the same from China.

Trump called India a reliable partner
Trump called India a reliable partner, saying, “He (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) is my friend.” We have a very good relationship.” He added, “We weren’t happy about buying oil from Russia because it would allow Russia to continue this senseless war in which it has lost 150,000 people, mostly soldiers.”

What did Trump say about the Russia-Ukraine war?
Regarding the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, Trump said, “This is a war that should never have started, but it’s a war that Russia should have won in the first week, and they’re entering its fourth year. I want to see it stopped.” That’s why I wasn’t happy that India was buying oil.” Trump’s statement comes at a time when the US is increasing pressure to ensure that Western sanctions are effective and that Russia’s military receives no funding.

India has clarified its stance
India has already clarified that its purchase of oil from Russia is based on its energy needs. The US has repeatedly tried to pressure India to buy oil from Russia. The 50% tariff on India is an example of this. India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has previously stated that India’s energy purchases are driven by national interest. “We do not import from any country based on political considerations. Our decisions are driven by market realities.” India also maintains that its imports are in line with the price ceiling set by the G7 on Russian oil and that it is meeting its domestic energy needs while adhering to all international regulations.
