Vienna: US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he has asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to stop attacking Iran so that the US administration can get more time to move forward on a new nuclear deal with Tehran. Trump told reporters at the White House, “I told him it would be inappropriate to do so right now because we are very close to a solution.”
No decision yet
President Donald Trump’s remarks came at a time when Rafael Mariano Grossi, the head of the United Nations nuclear watchdog, said that there is still no decision on talks between Iran and the US over Iran’s rapidly growing nuclear program. Grossi said he is in talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff almost daily. Grossi told reporters in Vienna, “At the moment, nothing has been decided. We don’t know if there is going to be an agreement or not.”
What does America want?
Talks are going on between the US and Iran on uranium enrichment. There is also discussion between the two countries on how to limit Iran’s nuclear program, in return for which the US will consider easing some of the economic sanctions imposed on Iran.
‘Iran will be attacked’
The US and Israel have been constantly threatening Iran regarding the nuclear deal. The US has clearly said that if an agreement is not reached with Iran, then Iran will be attacked, which will be led by Israel. However, Iran has always said that its nuclear program is for peaceful and civilian purposes and not for making weapons.
