Washington: The Iranian government has requested US help to investigate the helicopter crash in which President Ibrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister and six others died, but the US will not assist due to ‘logistic’ reasons. This information has been given by a senior US diplomat. The helicopter in which Raisi and Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian and six others were aboard crashed due to fog and all of them were found dead on Monday. Raisi was considered one of the leading candidates in the race to succeed 85-year-old Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
This is the reason why help is not being given
When US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller was asked about the Iranian government’s request for help in a press conference on Monday, he clarified that the US helps in such situations when foreign governments request it, but the US is not able to help it in any way. Miller told reporters that Iran is not being helped largely due to ‘logistic’ reasons.
America expressed condolences
Responding to a question, Matthew Miller said that the US has officially condoled the death of Raisi and also attended a silent ceremony at the United Nations Security Council over the death of the Iranian leader. The spokesperson said that the US is very clear that Raisi was involved in oppressing the Iranian people for four decades, but it (the US) regrets the death of anyone in an accident like a helicopter crash. Miller said that Raisi’s record as a judge and president in Iran has not changed and “the fact that his hands were stained with blood has also not changed.”
