Uttar Pradesh: In Azamgarh district, two youths attempted suicide by hanging themselves from a peepal tree in Madya of the city Kotwali area. One youth died in the accident while the other youth fell and was seriously injured due to the rope breaking.

A heart-wrenching incident has come to light in Madya of City Kotwali area in Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh, where two youths tried to commit suicide by hanging themselves from a noose on a peepal tree. One youth died in this accident, while the other youth fell and got seriously injured due to the rope breaking.

The injured youth has been immediately admitted to the district hospital with the help of local people, while the body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem. The police have started investigating the matter.

What is the whole matter?

Let us tell you that the incident took place on a peepal tree located near the Shiva temple of Madya. The deceased youth has been identified as Sumit Nishad (18 years, son of Ahai), while the injured youth is Akash (16 years, son of Dinesh). Both the youths are residents of City Kotwali area. According to eyewitnesses, the injured Akash tried to hang himself again, but the local people tied him with a rope and controlled him and took him to the hospital.

Police started investigation
As soon as the information about the case was received, the Kotwali police reached the spot and started the investigation. SSP Hemraj Meena said that prima facie this case seems to be related to ghosts and exorcism. Both the youths allegedly attempted suicide due to fear of ghosts or superstition.

The SSP said that other reasons for the incident are also being investigated thoroughly. The police have started questioning the family of the deceased and the local people so that the real reason behind the incident can be found out.

Negligence regarding mental health
This incident highlights superstition and lack of awareness about mental health. Experts say that there is a need to run awareness campaigns at the community level to deal with the increasing mental pressure and superstition among the youth. Along with this, this incident has proved how strong the roots of superstition are in our society even today.
