Politics is in full swing in Uttar Pradesh regarding changing the names of districts, cities and localities. After Shahjahanpur’s Jalalabad was renamed as Parshurampuri, once again the demand for changing the names of many districts has intensified. Just three days ago, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti had urged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to change the name of Shahjahanpur. Uma Bharti says that the name Shahjahanpur is from the era of slavery.
New name of Ghazipur
After Uma Bharti, BJP MLA from Ballia Ketki Singh has demanded to change the name of Ghazipur. She has said that she is demanding to change the name of Ghazipur to Maharishi Gautam. She says that Maharishi Gautam was the father of Parshuram. Ketki Singh has demanded to name Azamgarh after Maharishi Durvasa.
New name of Aligarh
The demand to change the name of Aligarh to Harigarh has also been going on for a long time. In the year 2021, the MPs and MLAs of Aligarh passed a resolution demanding to rename Aligarh as Harigarh. Now this proposal has been sent again to CM Yogi Adityanath. Similarly, the demand to rename Sultanpur as Kushbhavanpur has been going on for the last several years.
Demand also raised in Rajya Sabha
The demand for changing the name was also raised in Rajya Sabha. Rajya Sabha MP Dr Dinesh Sharma on Monday demanded that the names of roads, public places and buildings named after foreign invaders be changed. Let us tell you that in UP, the Yogi government renamed Faizabad district as Ayodhya and Allahabad as Prayagraj. Mughalsarai railway station was renamed as Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction. In Gorakhpur too, the names of about a dozen municipal wards were changed. In 2022, Mundera Bazaar of Gorakhpur was renamed as Chauri Chaura and Telia Afghan of Deoria was renamed as Telia Shukla. Earlier in 2022, the Yogi government in Gorakhpur had named wards with Muslim names like Mian Bazaar, Muftipur, Alinagar, Turkmanpur, Ismailpur.
On the other hand, Culture and Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh said that Firozabad should be renamed as Chandranagar, a proposal for this has been sent to the CM. He said that we are doing development as well as working to keep Sanatan alive. At the same time, SP spokesperson Udayveer Singh said that BJP has no work other than changing names, the government should form a commission.
