Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested the professor accused of sexually abusing girls in Hathras from Prayagraj. Chief Proctor Rajneesh was absconding since the case was registered on March 13. Obscene photos and videos of Chief Proctor Rajneesh with girl students also went viral. Police say that the accused has been arrested and every kind of investigation is being done to collect evidence against him, which will be presented before the court.

Dr. Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Proctor of Bagla Degree College, had gone to Prayagraj to get anticipatory bail. He was arrested from here late Wednesday night. Police said that they have also recovered a mobile phone and a laptop from Kumar. Kumar was a professor in the Geography Department of Bagla Degree College and later became the Chief Proctor.

Anonymous letter exposed the truth
After the arrest, Superintendent of Police (SP) Chiranjeev Nath Sinha said that the police received an anonymous letter, in which Rajneesh Kumar was accused of sexually abusing college girls and making obscene videos of them. The letter was accompanied by a CD containing all the pornographic videos. The SP said the complaint was investigated and a case was registered against Kumar under relevant sections of the law at the Hathras Gate police station on March 13.

Started in 2019

“Kumar had installed a special software on his phone and laptop, which kept the front screen off while recording videos in the background. He allegedly used this method to blackmail students,” the SP said. “Investigation revealed that he first sexually abused a fourth-grade female employee in 2019, followed by sexually abusing seven to eight girl students, using the recorded videos to intimidate and coerce them,” the SP said.

Victimised by promising good marks
The officer said Kumar lured students by promising high marks, academic promotions and jobs. “He would often gift them expensive items and money to win their confidence. Once he built a close relationship, he sexually exploited them in his office room and secretly recorded their intimate moments using his software. “The victims were not aware of the recordings until they were later used for blackmail. Even after the students graduated, he allegedly continued to threaten and exploit them,” Sinha said.

The accused professor joined the college in 2001

According to the police, Kumar joined Bagla College as a lecturer in 2001 and became the head of the geography department in 2016. In July 2024, he was appointed as the chief proctor of the college. His marriage in 1996 was reportedly troubled and he had no children. He allegedly attempted to remarry and once had physical relations with a woman who visited his house. Police said the incident got accidentally recorded on his computer’s webcam, which gave him the idea to systematically exploit students by secretly recording their intimate moments. The case will be presented in court soon as police continue to investigate his actions and digital records, officials said.
