Uttarakhand Cloudburst: Cloudburst has caused massive destruction in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. After cloudburst in the high altitude area of Dharali, there was a flood in the Kheerganga river, due to which Dharali village has been destroyed. Due to the fast flow of water and debris, more than 20 hotels, houses and homestays collapsed like a pack of cards. Meanwhile, rescue operations are going on in Dharali, Harshil and Sukhi Top. More than 130 people have been rescued so far.
10 people dead, 10 army personnel missing
So far 10 people have been reported dead due to this flood, while many people including about 10 army personnel are still missing. Army, SDRF, NDRF and police-administration teams are engaged in relief and rescue work on a war footing. Colonel Harshvardhan, Commanding Officer of Army’s 14th RAJRIF, is engaged in rescue and relief work along with 150 soldiers. Rescue operations are going on at a fast pace after the devastation caused by the cloudburst. The disaster in Dharali is being monitored from the State Control Room.
Half Dharali buried in debris
Let us tell you that Dharali is located about 20 km before Gangotri Dham and is a major stop for the yatra. In this incident, at least half of Dharali village was buried in debris and mud. In the fast flow of flood water and debris, the surrounding buildings including three-four storey houses collapsed like a pack of cards. According to officials, this devastating flood occurred due to cloudburst in the catchment area of Khir Ganga river. Not only Dharali was affected by the flood. The fast-moving flood flowed in two different directions of the same hill – one towards Dharali and the other towards Sukki village.
Bad weather causing problems in rescue operations
Due to bad weather, there are also difficulties in relief and rescue work. Many incidents of landslides have also been reported due to rain in entire Uttarakhand. The NDRF has decided to deploy its first team of body search dogs to help locate those killed in the cloudburst incident in Uttarakhand. A pair of these dogs will be airlifted from Delhi, while three teams of the force from different places in the state have reached the spot, each consisting of 35 rescue workers.
Destruction in Harshil Army Camp too
There has been massive destruction in Harshil Army Camp too. The helipad has drowned. On the other hand, the Haridwar-Dehradun railway line was disrupted due to mountain debris falling on the railway track near Bhimgoda Tunnel in Haridwar. At the same time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the incident. In a post on social media ‘X’, he said that no stone is being left unturned to provide help to the people. He said, “I express my condolences to the people affected by this tragedy in Dharali, Uttarkashi. Along with this, I wish well to all the victims. I have taken information about the situation by talking to Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami ji. Relief and rescue teams are making every possible effort under the supervision of the state government. No stone is being left unturned to provide help to the people.” Union Home Minister Amit Shah has expressed deep grief over the cloudburst incident in Dharali in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand on Tuesday and assured the state government of all possible help.
Red alert for rain
On the other hand, there is no possibility of much relief from the weather in Uttarakhand on Wednesday as well. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rain at many places in the state. At the same time, an orange alert has also been issued at some places.
