In Uttarakhand, the Congress party has once again launched a protest against the ruling BJP over the Ankita Bhandari murder case. A ​​viral audio clip, allegedly featuring the wife of former BJP MLA Suresh Rathore, names a BJP leader, leading to demands for a CBI investigation. On Wednesday (December 24), the Congress Metropolitan Committee in Haridwar held a protest at Devpura Chowk, burning an effigy of the Uttarakhand government and chanting slogans.

Congress workers alleged that the BJP government has been protecting the VIP whose name is now surfacing in the case. They demanded a fresh investigation and the immediate arrest of all those involved. They also warned that if arrests are not made soon, a more intense agitation will follow.

Demand for the arrest of the ‘VIP’
Metropolitan Congress Committee President Aman Garg said, “The VIP involved in this entire case should be arrested immediately.” He alleged that a prominent leader’s name is coming up in the viral audio, yet no action is being taken. He warned that if arrests are not made soon, the movement will intensify and could turn violent.

Congress State President had released a video
It is worth noting that the Ankita Bhandari case has been rocked again by a viral video. State Congress President Ganesh Godiyal held a press conference at the party headquarters in New Delhi on Tuesday regarding this matter and demanded a fresh investigation and the immediate arrest of those whose names are being mentioned in connection with the murder.

The viral audio allegedly names Uttarakhand in-charge Dushyant Gautam. In an audio clip, Suresh Rathore is reportedly addressed as “Gattu.” Furthermore, BJP women’s wing leader Aarti has suddenly resigned after this audio went viral.

Protest in Mussoorie as well
Congress workers also staged a strong protest in Mussoorie, the “Queen of the Hills,” on Wednesday over the Ankita Bhandari issue. Congress workers gathered at Jhulaghar Chowk, burned an effigy of the BJP government, and chanted slogans against the BJP, demanding justice for Ankita Bhandari. Congress workers continuously chanted slogans of “BJP down with you!” during the protest.

Senior former Congress MLA Dost Singh Gunsola, City Congress President Amit Gupta, and Congress leader Upendra Thapli targeted the BJP government, questioning why it was not revealing the name of the leader involved in Ankita Bhandari’s murder. They said that atrocities against women are continuously occurring in the state, but the BJP government has limited itself to mere slogans of “Save the Daughter, Educate the Daughter.”

The Congress leaders warned that if the BJP government does not order a CBI inquiry into the matter and does not make the name of the accused leader public, the party will launch a fierce agitation across the state from January 5th. Congress state president Ganesh Godiyal also clarified that Congress will not remain silent until Ankita Bhandari gets justice. He said that the BJP’s departure from the state in 2027 is certain, and the Congress party, with the support of the people, will form a government with a full majority in the state.
