Vehicles entering Uttarakhand from outside the state will be charged a green tax starting in December. Officials stated on Saturday that this decision was taken to promote pollution control, environmental protection, and cleanliness in the state. The official stated that the collection of this fee will begin in December.
State Additional Transport Commissioner Sanat Kumar Singh stated that Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras installed at the state’s border areas will automatically recognize the registration numbers of vehicles entering the state from outside.
Vendor Company Appointed to Collect Green Tax
He stated that 16 cameras are already installed at the border areas, and this number has now been increased to a total of 37. Sanat Kumar Singh stated that the Transport Department has appointed a vendor company to collect the green tax. He explained that the data collected from the cameras will be transmitted to the vendor through software, where the information about Uttarakhand-registered vehicles, two-wheelers, and government vehicles will be separated and sent to the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) database.

The official explained that vehicle owners’ wallet numbers will be searched, and the corresponding amount will be automatically deducted from their wallets and deposited into the Transport Department’s account. Sanat Kumar Singh explained that different tax rates have been set for different categories of vehicles, including ₹80 for small vehicles, ₹250 for small cargo vehicles, ₹140 for buses, and ₹120 to ₹700 for trucks, depending on their weight.
