It has been almost 10 days since the results of the presidential election in Venezuela were declared, but the deadlock between the ruling party and the opposition is still continuing. The opposition is claiming its victory by holding a rally against President Maduro, but now this claim is going to cost it heavily.

In fact, on Monday, opposition leaders Gonzalez and Maria Corina Machado claimed their victory in the Venezuelan elections. Machado, who is considered the strongest face of the opposition, even appealed to the army to support the public against Maduro.

America recognized Gonzalez as the winner

In fact, many countries including America, Argentina have recognized opposition leader Gonzalez Urrutia as the winner of the Venezuelan presidential election, while many other countries have demanded to make the voting details public. At the same time, Russia and China have already congratulated President Maduro for winning the election. That is, they consider Maduro as the winner in this election.

Opposition claimed victory with double the votes

A few days ago, the Washington Post informed that it has reviewed more than 23 thousand tally sheets collected by the opposition, which is 80 percent of the voting machines in Venezuela. The Washington Post has said that reviewing these tally sheets shows that Gonzalez has received more than double the votes than Nicolas Maduro. After this report of the Washington Post, opposition leaders issued a statement, which said that Maduro got 30 percent and Gonzalez got 67 percent votes in the Venezuelan presidential election. This statement had the signatures of both Gonzalez and Machado.

In this statement, the opposition has claimed that it has won in all the states and municipalities of the country. The people of Venezuela are witness to this victory. The opposition has alleged that Maduro is not able to accept that the people of the country have defeated him.

Criminal investigation started against the opposition

After this statement, the problems of the opposition leaders have increased. The Maduro government has started an investigation against them. Attorney General Tarek William Saab objected to the opposition’s statement and accused the opposition of declaring wrong results, different from the National Election Council (CNE). He also accused the opposition leaders of inciting the army and police to violate the law. Attorney General Tarek Saab said that he has decided to start a criminal investigation against both the opposition leaders.

Controversy over the results of the presidential election

In fact, the results of the presidential election were declared in Venezuela on July 28, the opposition party was completely confident about its victory but the results shocked the whole country. The data released by Venezuela’s Election Commission CNE has claimed Maduro’s victory with 52 percent votes. At the same time, it has been confirmed that the opposition parties have received 43 percent votes. But the opposition in Venezuela is united and has refused to accept these results. Apart from this, the public is also protesting on the streets against Maduro, it has been claimed that 11 civilians died in the protests last week.

Appeal to the army to listen to the voice of conscience
Venezuela’s opposition leader Maria Corina Machado may not be contesting the elections, but she has a big contribution in uniting the opposition. Machado formed a coalition of opposition parties before the elections against Maduro and made Gonzalez the face of the opposition. She is constantly criticizing the Maduro government and claiming her victory. This was the reason why in a joint statement issued with Gonzalez, she appealed to the army and police officials to listen to the voice of conscience and support the public.
