Vienna: Indian President Draupadi Murmu leaves for home after completing her visit to Portugal and Slovakia

Vienna: Indian President Draupadi Murmu has left for her home country after completing her visit to Portugal and Slovakia. Her visit has been “historic” in many respects. This was the first visit of an Indian President to both the countries in nearly three decades. From this, you can easily guess the importance of this visit. Before Draupadi Murmu, the last time an Indian President visited Slovakia was 29 years ago, while the visit to Portugal has taken place after a gap of 27 years.

President Murmu was on a four-day visit to these two countries. Now, after completing her visit, she is returning. She has reached here by road from Bratislava to leave for New Delhi by plane along with Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Nimuben Bambhania and MPs Dhaval Patel and Sandhya Ray. After this, she will come to New Delhi by air. The President had reached Portugal in the first leg of the visit. After this, she went to Slovakia.

Talks held on bilateral relations

President Murmu reached Slovakia in the second phase of the visit. Here the President met various dignitaries including his Slovakian counterpart Peter Pellegrini, Prime Minister Robert Fico, Speaker of Parliament and discussed several issues of mutual cooperation. During this, Slovakia and India discussed cooperation in emerging technology areas like space and artificial intelligence (AI) and explored further opportunities in areas like cyber security. Foreign Ministry Secretary Tanmay Lal said, “Cooperation in the field of education and research has strengthened. He said that tourism is increasing between our countries. “If we look at the economic relations between India and Slovakia, trade is growing rapidly.

Trade increased 3 times in 5 years

Slovakia said that its trade with India has increased three times in the last 5 years to around 1.3 billion euros. On Thursday, the President visited the Tata Motors JLR plant in Nitra, 100 km from Bratislava, which produces Discovery and Defender model vehicles. There he met the Indian employees and enquired about their well-being. Slovakian President Pellegrini was also present with Draupadi Murmu. Both the leaders also visited the place where the cars were being prepared. Murmu was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Nitra-based ‘Constantine the Philosopher University’.
