What did Sheikh Hasina say?
In an email interview with ANI, former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina commented on the ICT’s decision, saying, “This decision has nothing to do with justice and is entirely a matter of political vendetta. I was not given the right to defend myself, nor was I allowed to choose a lawyer of my choice. The tribunal was used to take revengeful action against the Awami League. However, my faith in Bangladesh’s institutions has not been shaken. Our constitutional traditions are strong, and when legitimate rule is restored and our judiciary regains its independence, justice will prevail.”
Extremists targeting Hindus
Following the death of Usman Hadi in Bangladesh, Jamaat-e-Islami extremists have once again become active. The extremists are targeting members of the Hindu community. In the western district of Jhenaidah, a man was assaulted by extremists. It is alleged that the extremists targeted Govinda Biswas after seeing a sacred thread (kalava) on his wrist.
