The Waqf Amendment Bill has been introduced in the Lok Sabha. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju introduced the bill in the Lok Sabha for discussion. Speaker Om Birla has set a time of 8 hours for discussion on the bill. If necessary, the Lok Sabha Speaker can also extend it. The government is trying to get the bill passed from the Lok Sabha today itself, after which it will be introduced in the Rajya Sabha.
Who got how much time?
- NDA has been given 4 hours 40 minutes.
- The remaining 3 hours 20 minutes have been given to the opposition.
However, the opposition has sought 12 hours for discussion. On this, Rijiju says that the time for discussion can be extended.
JDU and TDP are supporting the bill
Meanwhile, Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party i.e. TDP and Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United i.e. JDU have announced to support the bill. Both the parties have also issued whips to all their MPs to be present in the House.
Congress will strongly oppose the bill – Rahul Gandhi
On the other hand, before the bill was presented, Rahul Gandhi held a meeting with Congress MPs and said that the bill will be strongly opposed. Let us tell you that the number game in the Lok Sabha is in favor of the government. In such a situation, it is believed that the bill will be easily passed in the Lok Sabha. There are 293 MPs in support of the Waqf Bill while there are only 239 MPs in opposition, which is 33 less than the required number.
