Wayanad (Kerala): Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi has launched a major attack on the BJP-led central government. She alleged that for the first time in history a government is trying to weaken both the Constitution and democracy of the country. Addressing the party’s booth level leaders in Eranad assembly constituency, Wayanad MP Priyanka said, “This is probably the first government in the history of our country that is trying to weaken the Constitution and democracy.”

It is necessary to save whatever has been achieved
She said, “You should understand that the fight we are fighting today is not just a fight for our own politics and ideology, but a fight to save everything that India has achieved.” On the second day of her three-day visit to Wayanad, Priyanka spoke on the issue of human-animal conflict and said that she would write a letter to the central and state government to allocate more funds as adequate funds are needed for effective security measures. Speaking to reporters on the issue of human-animal conflict after the meeting, she said she had raised the issue once before and would continue to do so.

“This is an issue that we need to look into, it is a complex issue as there is no easy solution to it. Of course, I will put as much pressure as possible,” she said. Priyanka said there was difficulty in getting funds from both the Centre and the state governments. “I will raise the issue and ensure that it is resolved,” she said.

Will hold meeting with booth-level leaders

She said better surveillance, better security measures and increased funds were needed to enhance the safety of forest guards, watchmen and others involved. She will later attend another meeting in Thiruvambady assembly constituency in Kozhikode district. On Monday, she will hold meetings with booth-level leaders in Wandoor and Nilambur assembly constituencies and also meet the families of some of those killed in wild animal attacks, Congress sources said. This is his second visit to Wayanad after winning the Lok Sabha by-election.
